12/28/2023 0 Comments Yelp no wait listI confronted the hostess, showing her my place on the Yelp waitlist (which, in 30-45 minutes of standing around had NOT moved). I had spoken with them out front, and they said the hostess called them to come inside to seat them. She was at the hostess stand, with a line of people, 4 of whom has also just shown up to try to get in. I reserved a spot on the waitlist in the 9am hour, and it was 11:43 when I finally went to the hostess. At this point, we were on the Yelp waitlist for nearly 3 hours. I will admit, I did not immediately approach the hostess, because I didn't want to assume that people were unfairly being seated ahead of me (and the other 20 people on the Yelp waitlist), just in case they were actually there waiting longer than us. In that time, multiple 2-4 person groups were welcomed as walk-ins, and seated at 4 open tables on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant while we were standing there. A crowd both gathered, and dissipated in the following 30 minutes as we patiently waited for our turn to come. At check in, the hostess only stated: "I'll call you when we got a table for you." So, my family and I went outside, we stepped just across the street for my mom to smoke, returned just about 5 minutes later, and stood literally only feet away from the door of the restaurant. At that time, there were (2) parties ahead of us, two of which were parties of 12, and 13 people. My husband, parents, and I were on the waitlist for 2.5 hours. We had never had this problem before, and the food was incredible, so I was able to get over the long wait. It was frustrating, but understandable, seeing as it was Mardi Gras and sometimes things don't flow smoothly. When we arrived, we were checked in, but had to wait an ADDITIONAL 45 minutes. The estimated wait time was 65-80 minutes. So, in 2020, I signed up for Yelp and got on the Yelp waitlist. I was advised to get in early, or get on the waitlist because the crowds flock here. When I came in 2020 to Mardi Gras, I heard about this restaurant. Unfortunately, this restaurant story did not have the same ending. That being so, one thing has always remained true about this city: It has wonderful hospitality. We spend a lot of time in New Orleans, and, therefore, have had different experiences throughout the years. I don't give a lot of subpar reviews, so this was tough to write. I came in 2020 during Mardi Gras and was blown away by the simple, but pleasing menu, as well as the special Mardi Gras stuffed French Toast they offered. Let me preface this review wit the following: The food here is fantastic.
